This page introduces several near futuristic solutions that are made possible with the use of NFC.

It is predicted that NFC would be employed in various portable devices. For example, if pictures are taken by NFC enabled cell phone with built in camera and digital camera, by simply touching the screen of the receiving NFC enabled PC and television sets, they can be viewed on the large screen. Further, if printers are NFC enabled, the photographs could also be printed by simply “touching” the printer.

When transmitting relatively large amounts of data such as photographs and moving images, communication protocols that transmit data at high speed over long distances such as Bluetooth are used. When using wireless transmission protocols over long distances, the long distances traveled by the signals provide greater opportunities for data theft. For that reason, Bluetooth communication procedure (pairing) is extremely complicated that daunts ordinary users. NFC shortens the communication distance to less than 10 cm so that the act of drawing both devices near each other to less than 10 cm triggers a secure data communication. By executing Bluetooth communication protocol enables a simple and secure high speed data transmission.
Wireless broadband (WiFi) services at stations and cafes have become widespread. Services currently provided are prepaid monthly services and mostly conducted through the use of User IDs and passwords issued by the service providers. In order to avail of these services, settings prescribed by the service provider must be installed first which could be tedious.
Should NFC enabled WiFi broadband services become widely used, wireless broad band could be availed of by the service user simply by “touching” the personal computer with the Smart card or IC mobile phone.

When a user buys time to avail of wireless broadband services at a service provider’s shop, the service provider issues the user an access key (information needed for WiFi connection --- SSID and a coded key). At this point, the access key is loaded on the media, either a Smart card or an IC mobile phone. The user touches the Smart card to the terminal for the access key that was issued to retrieve the access key. Afterwards, by simply touching his personal computer’s NFC reader with the Smart card, settings for connection is installed and connection to the internet is established.

It is possible to buy the access key not only from the shop but also through the mobile phone. When bought using an IC mobile phone, the access key that was purchased is stored on the built in IC. Touching a personal computer with the mobile phone completes the connection. Using the GPS capability of a mobile phone at the same time makes connection more convenient since the user could search for the nearest access point.
