Q1. Can NFC reader read Mifare® and FeliCa™?

A. The communication standards part of Mifare® and FeliCa™ are defined according to NFC standards. The encrypted parts can be read by adding their composite functions.

Q2. How far is the communication distance of NFC?

A. Less than 10 cm. However, when connected to other communication standards like Bluetooth and WiFi, communication distance may be deemed to be extended to 10 to 30 m from the user.

Q3. Is application development possible using NFC modules?

A. Yes, it is possible. From NFC module manufacturers, SDK (Solution Development Kit) is also sold. Please inquire from here when purchasing these products.

Q7. At present, are there available services using NFC?

A. Demonstration tests on the use of NFC in traffic tickets and accounts settlement are conducted overseas. There are no services using NFC inside Japan at the moment. However, many service providers are now evaluating the use of NFC in the services they offer and, even inside Japan, it is just a matter of time when service providers start to develop the use of NFC in their services.

Q8. What are the differences between NFC and FeliCa™ and Mifare®?

A. Although FeliCa™ and Mifare® standards which have characteristics close to those in the field of RFID, these products are used only in reading and writing data on IC tags. NFC, however, has its own data communication capability. Hence, it is able to receive and pass standardized LAN and Bluetooth connection information and perform handover, the communication cooperation function.
