NFC has four features: three basic functions and connectivity standard with each device.

Card emulation
Functions as a non-contact Smart card and acts as Smart card / tag of compatible Mifare® (ISO/IEC 14443 TypeA), ISO/IEC 14443 Type B, FeliCa™ and ISO 15693.
Can build applications using infrastructure of cards that are issued in large numbers worldwide.

Reader / Writer Emulation
Functions as reader / writer and can read / write o Smart cards that support the standards listed above. For example, when a NFC enabled mobile phone terminal is held near or made to touch a poster with attached IC, the mobile phone could transmit all poster information (URL, etc) contained in the Smart card.

Terminal-to-Terminal Communication
Communicates with other NFC enabled devices at a speed of 212 kbps or 424 kbps. Serves as a communication path for the receipt and transmission of data such as text data between PCs.
Simply touching (holding near) the mobile phone to the PC, smooth authentication of data such as mail data, schedule, image data, phone directory, XML data, etc, and file information exchange are enabled.
E Coordination with Windows SideShow: Data retrieval from the turned off PC, convenience in business scene, security, information speed

※SideShow
Data transmission standard built on Windows Vista™ system. Can verify needed information regardless of whether PC power is on/off or is on sleep mode.
NFC Terminal-to-Terminal Pairing
When exchanging large volumes of data between NFC enabled terminals, the pairing could be done with the NFC and then the actual data exchange could be done faster using Bluetooth or WiFi. This process wherein pairing/authentication are done before communication is turned over to faster standards is called “hand over.” By simply touching NFC to a Bluetooth enabled devices such as mobile phones and digital cameras, photographs and moving images could be transmitted to personal computers, television and other such media.
Bluetooth Hand Over
Transmission of data using Bluetooth enables viewing of the photographs and moving images taken with a mobile phone on external devices. The use range of mobile data spreads.
Anyone could easily enjoy digital life.

WiFi Hand Over
Enables connection to wireless LAN at hotspots without the hassle of entering into contract with service provides and complicated authen tication procedures.
Connection and authentication to hotspots is fast and simple. Secure access is gained at no time at all.
